THREE FORKS AT A GLANCE
On July 25th, 1805, Meriwether Lewis and William Clark arrived at the headwaters of the Missouri with their guide Sacajawea, making them the first white men to enter the confluence region. The three rivers were then named west to east for President Thomas Jefferson, Secretary of State James Madison, and Treasury Secretary Albert Gallatin. In 1882, a group of Englishmen settled the area and platted the town, officially giving it the name Three Forks.
